The plan is to be carried out under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) investment form with 100 per cent foreign investment capital of US$ 2 billion. The plant is expected to generate electricity by mid-2015 and will be transferred to the Vietnamese Government after 25 years of operation.

The Mong Duong 2, to meet all environmental requirements of the World Bank and Vietnam, will have two turbines, with capacity of 560MW each, to generate 7.6 billion kWh per year.

The project will employ around 5,000 construction workers at peak periods, and 200 technicians and engineers, mostly Vietnamese, when put into service.

The AES-TKV Mong Duong Co. Ltd. (BOT Co.), the plant’s project holder, is a company from affiliates of the American AES Corporation, and the plant’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) main contractor is Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam Co. Ltd and its members.

Paul Hanrahan, Chairman and CEO of the AES Corporation, affirmed that the plant will make contributions to Vietnam’s economic development.
